    A "conflict of interest?" (none / 0) (#2)
by Nick on Thu May 28, 2009 at 05:04:34 PM EST
No.  Would we be gripping about him saying one thing and voting another way?  Yes.

But not for having a "conflict of interest."

There are a lot of small business people in both chambers.  Republicans and Democrats.  They all vote on taxes and regulatory policy affecting small businesses.  We've NEVER called anyone out for a conflict of interest.

Huckleberry's non-position is VERY different from the Senate majority's take.  The Senate actually backs up theirs with a vote.

If conflict of interest... (none / 0) (#3)
by thejmfc on Fri May 29, 2009 at 03:37:52 AM EST
...was a valid concern in our legislature, how can they vote on anything?  As Michigan citizens, they are each affected by many/most of the laws that they pass.

I guess if we want to avoid these "conflicts of interest", maybe we should have a legislature comprised completely of people from Ohio and Indiana...

On the other hand, maybe it's a good thing that they have to live with the laws that they pass.  While Mike Huckleberry wasn't quite motivated to do the right thing in this case, at least he was reduced to inactivity.  It's a start.
