McCain's won Idaho. It would be good to color it.125.239.165.240 01:26, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Map[edit]

I didn't darken anything. I copied the file straight from Wiki and then corrected the counties. TheHoosierState89 03:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

  • At this point I think we need to sacrifice a minor color change for correctness, so when I upload the final results of all the SD and MT counties everything will be correct and apparently they'll be "dark" again even though I have done nothing to make them "dark". TheHoosierState89 03:56, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Open up Paint (if you have Windows), copy and paste the current light colored map into paint, and then paste yours on top of it. You will notice that there is a very darkened difference between the two that causes the two colors to essentially blend with each other when zoomed out. What program are you using to color these counties? It would probably be best to just let me fix the dozen counties. Gage 04:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm using paint and the colors are exactly the same. TheHoosierState89 04:58, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Would you mind reposting your version of the map so I can recompare them? It doesn't have to be completely up to date, I just need to see something. Gage 05:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay will do. TheHoosierState89 05:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. TheHoosierState89 05:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. I compiled an animation to show the difference in color that I am seeing. Here is the image: Countycolor.gif. Gage 05:39, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
That's it. You're using an older version of paint than I am. There actually is no difference in the color, just the versions of MS Paint. TheHoosierState89 05:47, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
There is a difference in the color. I don't only see the color difference in Paint, it's the same when it's on here. The version has nothing to do with the final result. I also fixed all the counties (about three, not a dozen) that I saw were different between my map and yours as I was overlaying the two. So the issue of incorrect counties, unless I missed one and I'm pretty sure I didn't, then there's really no reason to try and fix mine, and darken it for the people whose monitors differentiate the two colors. Gage 05:54, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay to hopefully wrap this up, both the cities of Boston and San Francisco (they're very small, so they're easy to miss) should be purple for Obama along with Lassen County, California. If I find any more, I'll let you know. TheHoosierState89 06:02, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. I just now noticed Lassen County as I was reevaluating myself to make sure I had not missed any 100%. I'll fix the other two, and finish off the only 5 counties left in Montana. Gage 06:06, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Gage, could you please explain the extra numbers in your file Image:US Electoral College Map 2008.svg for Maine and Nebraska? Thanks. Goodtimber (talk) 17:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I really have no idea why they are there. They were just in the PNG version of the same file, and so I just added it to the SVG version out of instinct that they actually had a reason for being there. Gage (talk) 01:58, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Could you also use more than one source as many people I know find CNN biased towards Obama. I find FOX News Fair & Balanced. If you could use just FOX News or both FOX News and CNN that would be great.--   ChristianMan16  01:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
CNN is not biased, FOX is not fair and balanced. I'll add a link to Fox News' map, if they even have one, for reference, but I do not see the neccesity. Gage (talk) 01:28, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Maine[edit]

The CNN source gives 3 of Maine's electoral votes to Obama, but the last one is still up in the air. Therefore, shouldn't the little circle with the 1 in it remain gray? --Haha169 (talk) 01:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Both Maine CDs have been projected for Obama. The districts are not split. SFGiants (talk) 02:05, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

I wholeheartedly thank you for updating the election map in a timely order! Thank you! I could suggest that you include the electoral vote count progress for each candidate though. -- penubag  (talk) 03:56, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Gladly, I enjoyed updating it. Electoral vote totals are listed on the election's main page, it is unnecessary in the map itself. Gage (talk) 05:48, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Nebraska electoral votes[edit]

Hi, Gage. Thanks for your work updating the electoral votes map for the election. I notice that the map shows all 5 of Nebraska's votes projected for McCain, but the Associated Press, for one, has only called the 2 statewide votes for McCain (see [2]). The current estimates available on the Nebraska Secretary of State site suggest that the electoral vote for the Second Congressional District (Omaha) is likely to go to Obama: see this PDF. It appears that CNN has called all 5 votes for McCain, and the Fox News site doesn't work in my browser for some reason, but I would suggest leaving the three votes tied to Congressional Districts gray for now, given that the AP hasn't called them yet and the state estimates suggest one may go to Obama. —Bkell (talk) 04:56, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Never mind. The state estimates have been updated and now McCain leads Obama in the Second Congressional District. —Bkell (talk) 05:24, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Cobb County, GA on your map[edit]

Hi, Gage -- nice work on the county by county voting map for 2008, but I noticed Cobb County, GA (just to the NW of Fulton County in the northern-center of Georgia, containing Atlanta) was blue on your map. John McCain actually carried the county instead. Just a helpful note!

State maps of election results by country[edit]

On some of the maps (Wyoming, Washington state, etc.) it would be better to avoid "tilting" that would be appropriate for a part of an overall map of the whole U.S., but can look strage on an individual map of one state only. AnonMoos (talk) 10:32, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Texas Presidential election map[edit]

Oregon Presidential election map[edit]

You have Jackson County colored in as red going for Republican on the map, but it actually went Democrat. Hopefully just a quick fix.--72.80.227.136 00:55, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I just noticed this error as well, as I am from Jackson County and this result was very historic for this county. I'm hoping you can fix it, all the info you need is in the 'United States presidential election in Oregon, 2008' article.

2008 Virginia Election Results by County Map[edit]

I just noticed an error on your Virginia 2008 Election Results by county map. You have Norfolk colored red. Barack Obama won the city by a very large margin, it should be colored blue. Please fix this. Thanks. --Cg41386 (talk) 21:07, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

    • Also, you included TWO MARYLAND COUNTIES: St. Mary's County, and Charles County in the map of the 2008 Presidential results in Virginia. They should be removed to be corrected.

Michelle Obama[edit]

Hi! I uploaded the original high quality photo from the White House over the version you altered. 111th United States Senate Structure.svg[edit]

Hello. I have done a little work converting images to SVG at English Wikipedia. I found en:File:111USHouseStructure.png in en:Category:Other images that should be in SVG format. I hand-crafted en:File:111USHouseStructure.svg as an alternative, before the Wikigraphists kindly pointed me at your rather better job at Commons with File:111th United States Senate Structure.svg. Before suggesting the .svg as a potential replacement I would value your comments, especially as to whether the new version is easily maintainable when the real world changes. Also, if you happen to be already working an equivalent image yourself, let me know and I'll find a different task. Thanks, en:Certes (talk) 11:14, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

It is as easily maintainable as changing a color in five seconds. And I have not created anything regarding the United States House of Representatives, only the senate. Gage (talk) 06:01, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the helpful comments. I have changed the colors and font on the Representatives SVG (to match your Senate image) and will suggest it as a replacement for the Representatives PNG (which has just been moved to Commons). en:Certes (talk) 13:12, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Alaska map[edit]

Hey, I'm working on en:United States presidential election in Alaska, 2008, and I saw your map of the results by borough. I'm curious to know where the data came from, in the hopes of being able to create a table like those most other states' articles have. I can't find the data anywhere on the state website, and the state's results are conspicuously absent on this map (click on 'county bubbles'). Any help would be much appreciated. — Hysteria18 (talk)

Actually, there was another user who had uploaded an SVG version of the United States county map for the 2008 election, who had stated that he had gotten the information on each specific borough from some website regarding election results in Alaska. I'm not sure if the file is still available or not, or if the discussion still exists, but I will try to find it now. Gage (talk) 20:22, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I found the map that I got the information from. It is on the English Wikipedia, and can be found here. Maybe you can try contacting the user who uploaded that map. Gage (talk) 20:36, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh dear, I can see this turning into something of a wild goose chase, especially given that Andyhi18 hasn't been active since March. Still, thanks muchly for the link, and here's hoping I find the data eventually. Just so you know, I'm trying to slowly work my way through the United States presidential election in x, 2008 pages, so there's a good chance you'll see me around here every so often if this problem arises on other articles. Thanks again. — Hysteria18 (talk) 14:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

California Senate Race 1950 map[edit]

Hey, I'm working on the article en:United States Senate election in California, 1950 and could really use a map by county. In that race, Nixon (Republican) took all counties except for Contra Costa, Solano, Lassen and Shasta, which were taken by Douglas (Dem.). Could you make one up? Many thanks. If you do, please let me know the image name either here or at my en: account (same name).--Wehwalt (talk) 14:54, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Wouldn't the county makeup look different from the current county map? Gage (talk) 13:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Have county borders changed since 1950?--Wehwalt (talk) 15:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea, I was asking you. Gage (talk) 23:45, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
I did some searching. This site chronicles a long list of small boundary changes among the counties, none of which I think affects the county outlines on a standard resolution map. I think the benefit of having the map (and most of the changes would be within the graphic margin of error) would outweigh any tiny imperfections.--Wehwalt (talk) 09:51, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
The only one that even shows to my naked eye here is the slight change between Kern and Ventura. Again, the map will be well worth having, and a boon to an article which I intend to push towards FA (it is now a GA).--Wehwalt (talk) 09:57, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, here you go. File:California Senate Election Results by County, 1950.svg. Gage (talk) 02:14, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! It really adds something to the article, makes it more professional.--Wehwalt (talk) 06:44, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Date sorting for Barack Obama in 2009 images[edit]

Hello,

If you could sort your uploads by the format [Image.jpg|YYYYMMDD], that would help arrange them in the category chronologically. Thanks! --BrokenSphere 20:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

My apologies, I was unsure of specifically how to arrange the date, but are you referring to the date in the image title, or in the image description? Gage (talk) 20:16, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for not seeing your response sooner.
What I specifically meant was sorting the images chronologically within a category. E.g., would be how you would set sort an image that was taken today.
However also mentioning the date of the event depicted in a photo as part of the title would be helpful, because it would help distinguish at a glance when Obama is at x location with x person. --BrokenSphere 01:12, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for responding as I was still quite unsure. I'll keep this in mind the next time I upload an Obama in 2009 image. My apologies for any inconvenience I caused by not adding it sooner. Gage (talk) 03:40, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Deleted image[edit]

Hello Gage,

I have uploaded an image from Flick (http://www.flickr.com/photos/elyob/3717383524/), that it has been deleted as a copyright violation. Its licence is Attribution-Share Alike 2.0., so I don't understand why. Thank-you.

The URL that was linked as the source, was not the same image that you had uploaded. Therefore, I determined that it was a copyright violation. If you would like to try to upload the photo again, and link to the correct image this time, then it should pass Flickr review. Gage (talk) 11:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Alaska[edit]

How in the world did you find the map for the borough results of the presidential election in Alaska?--72.76.142.97 17:53, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

I addressed that above. Thanks. Gage (talk) 22:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

California_Senate_Election_Results_by_County,_1950.svg‎[edit]

Hi, I find I made an error (well, not me, actually several books did) in who won which county. I'm now staring at a copy of the Statement of Vote, and this is how it was:

  • Douglas (Democratic) Contra Costa, Plumas, Lassen, Solano, Shasta
  • Nixon (Republican) all others.

Could you upload an updated version of the file? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:37, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

So, essentially just change Plumas county, correct? Gage (talk) 20:50, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Correct. I've commented it out in the article, but as it's at FAC, be kinda cool to have it back. Imagine my shock when I viewed the official documents and found four history books got it wrong!--Wehwalt (talk) 02:08, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Alright, fixed it. Feel free to contact me again if you come upon any other mistakes. Gage (talk) 02:15, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. No more mistakes likely, as I entered all the stats in a sortable table in the article!--Wehwalt (talk) 02:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Font question[edit]

Hi. I Was just looking at your Canadian election maps (File:Canada 2008 Federal Election.svg) to try and create one for another year. However I can't figure out which font you've used for the party candidate names. It looks very similar to Bitstream Vera Sans but it's not identical. Alternatively if it is Bitstream Vera Sans could you tell me which version you have installed, so that I can hunt it down online =) Thanks /Lokal_Profil 01:38, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Is it possibly "Gotham Medium"? /Lokal_Profil 01:51, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
No worries, hunted down a copy of Gotham Medium and that was the one. =) /Lokal_Profil 03:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Yep, it was Gotham Medium. Gage (talk) 09:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Another couple of questions. Did you use Gotham Medium for the "LIB, CON, NDP" labels as well, can't get a font size to match. Also what did you use as a basis for the width of the coloured bars? The 49 in QC is wider then the 51 in ON so I'm slightly confused. It's a great map though =) /Lokal_Profil 17:34, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
It might be Gotham Bold, I don't think I changed fonts, just the weight of the font. And I think that might have been a mistake on my part. I did not use any sort of device to measure how long the bar should be, I'm pretty sure I just based it on the PNG version that was uploaded. But I cannot remember exactly. Feel free to change it, as I think it would be better for informational purposes. Gage (talk) 18:27, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I've upped the 2006 map here. Please take a look an see if there is anything you dislike. if not I'll convert your version to the same standard i.e. party order same for all provinces (and title), bar lengths redefined. I've also done some standardisation of stroke-widths, bar hights, alignments and other miscellaneous details which no-one is likely ever to notice =). /Lokal_Profil 00:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
That looks great. Glad I could be of assistance. Gage (talk) 12:21, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Hello, Gage. I've noticed that you've uploaded several amazing quality pictures of Comic Con, most particularly those from Family Guy panels. Well, I've been working on the Wikipedia Dan Povenmire article and things related to his many shows; Povenmire was a longtime director for Family Guy and has attended Comic Con in past. I know I may be taking a shot in the dark, but did you happen to take any with him in the picture? It'd really help me with his article; if you don't I completely understand and thank you for your time, but if you do that'd be great.

Cheers, SuperFlash101 (talk) 17:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not aware that Povenmire attended. The Family Guy panel included writer Steve Callaghan, director Mark Hentemann, Mila Kunis, Seth Green, Alex Borstein, producer Kara Vallow, Seth MacFarlane and writer/producer David A. Goodman, from left to right on the panel. I'll be attending the 2010 Comic Con though, and fully intend to go to the Family Guy panel once more, so if he's there next year, I'll be sure to get a shot of him. Thanks. Gage (talk) 19:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Alright, thanks anyways! He's actually left Family Guy in order to create Phineas and Ferb, but I figured he might have attended it in previous years. Thanks anyways! SuperFlash101 (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, they had a Phineas and Ferb panel on that Sunday, which Povenmire actually attended, but I was in line for American Dad at that time. And I do not remember Povenmire ever attending the Family Guy panel. It's been more or less the same people, save a few voice actors. Anyway, thanks for the interest in my photos! Gage (talk) 23:08, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay then. And no problem. SuperFlash101 (talk) 01:04, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

SD thanks[edit]

Gage,

I appreciate your graphic illustrations. Nothing like well constructed graphics to represent data that creates a clear/er understanding.

I trust you enjoyed your visit to San Diego for Comic Con.

Thank you. Gage (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

NJ State Election Map[edit]

Nice job on the NJ 2009 gubernatorial election map...but the orientation is not due north and it looks quite strange to this longtime NJ resident. Can you adjust it to due north? Thanks 68.39.105.170 22:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you are referring to, can you please provide an example of this? Gage (talk) 23:44, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Sure. New Jersey actually has a more Southwest to Northeast orientation than your map depicts and can easily be seen in this google image search. I'm guessing your map needs to be rotated 11-12 degress clockwise for its typical due north orientation. Hope that helps. 68.39.105.170 00:15, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, done. Gage (talk) 00:25, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Looks much better now but for some reason the new map is not displaying. 68.39.105.170 05:22, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Electoral College adds up to 539[edit]

Your graphics for the estimated electoral college appears to be based on a source that forgot the loss of one seat in Minnesota. For the Presidential election page 2012, I used the new Polidata source from Dec 2009 (already used on the Census 2010 page), which means a change to Arizona +1 (instead of +2), Texas +4 (instead of +3) and Minnsota -1 (instead of 0). Do not place tags in my Jan Brewer image[edit]

I took the image with a cell phone at her actual news conference. Do not place tags like "Do not remove my notice" -- you were wrong. I took the image myself. It is grainy because I used a cell phone that does not have optical zoom, and I needed to use digital zoom.

Are you sure permission has been sent for this? I've ran many, many different searches through the OTRS Ticket system and no results have come through that relate to this image. Due to the high traffic that the subject is getting right now, I'd rather clear this licensing up as soon as possible. Technically, the file could be deleted right now due to there being no valid permission in the system ("If an email cannot be found in the OTRS system, this file may be deleted for lack of valid licensing information." -- from the OTRSPending tag). If you know the email address it was sent from, you could email me that via Special:EmailUser/Killiondude and that would be a surefire way of checking to see if it is in the system. Killiondude (talk) 08:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I sent the email moments after the image was uploaded. I can resend it to the permission email again, though I'm not sure why it wouldn't have been received. Gage (talk) 22:22, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
After manually scanning the newest tickets sent into the Commons' queue, I found it. This is just another example of a situation where the OTRS software shows itself to be less than desirable. In any case, it's all sorted. Thanks. Killiondude (talk) 06:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

AJOLIE.[edit]

I just saw your image on the Angelina Jolie wikipedia page and I have to say that it's an incredibly stunning shot. I was wondering if you have anymore HQ images of her at the Comic-Con and if you could possibly share details about what happened and what she was like in real life. Thanks again Gage, you're really talented with a camera. (:

Yes, I do have more photos. I will be uploading them to my Flickr photostream, which you can find here, most likely tonight, as there are very few Comic Con events to attend today. But thank you for the compliment, and please stay tuned for more photos from yesterday's Hall H events, as I was in the room all day, of which the Jolie event was the most hard to control the paparazzi. US Senate election in Illinois has 2 ballot items[edit]

I noticed you provided File:Illinois Senate Election Results by County, 2010.svg. I assume this is for the U.S. Senate, not Illinois Senate, since it appears on en:United States Senate elections in Illinois, 2010 right now. Things are going to get hairy with that November 2 election ballot, though: there's a normal item for 2011–2016, then a special item for December 2010. Just to make it more confusing, they will be in reverse chronological order on the ballot. Any naming convention for a second map? Also, are you in communication with the folks at en:Template talk:Infobox election? (They may need to change the infobox to have two maps, or maybe en:United States Senate elections in Illinois, 2010 just needs a second infobox, even though the court has ruled it has the same candidates.) --Closeapple (talk) 09:10, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Election maps[edit]

Gage, I notice you have uploaded a lot of maps (which, BTW, I think is cool, because I upload maps too). Two issues:

  1. However, on many of them, you simply mark them PD, not listing a source. Are you the original creator of the entire map, or did you get it from a blank map? This is quite important because the PD licensing template isn't correct if it's a derivative. For example there's File:Alaska Presidential Election Results by County, 2008.svg; is it perhaps derived from an image like File:Gray alaska.svg? If so, we'll need to go back and relicense these images (I can certainly help).
  2. Can you tell me where you got the county level data for the election results? The state of Alaska only breaks it down by state House precinct [6], so you'd have to interpret the data yourself or find it from someone else. I'm asking bc I want to create similar maps for Alaska by county for other elections. Either that, or (if you're in the business of creating blank maps), if you could create a map of Alaska by state house precinct. Magog the Ogre (talk) 08:51, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Gage, I've asked nicely, could you please respond to my question? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:03, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

If you don't respond to my question I'm going to start a mass tagging of your images with , and they'll be deleted. Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:35, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Pennsylvania Senate election red, blue map[edit]

I don't think that's nitpicky... it's not uncommon for very late returns (e.g., coming in days later) to alter the final outcome, so I'm sure Gage had it right to begin with, but it changed. Can you point me to the map? I'll change it for you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Gage!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hey Gage,

I want to let you know that you have Greene County----the very Southwest county in PA, as blue when actually Toomey won it by several votes.

Thanks

File:Bob Turner swearing-in ceremony.jpg and File:Bob Turner swearing-in ceremony crop.jpg[edit]

Hi Gage. I noticed these two uploads, the latter cropped from the former. The problem with the images is the source indicated is "Office of Congressman Bob Turner". Yet, if I go to http://bobturner.house.gov/ I can't find the main image anywhere. We need a more specific source than this. Certainly within the coming weeks we'll have official photographs of him available with verifiable provenance, leaving this image questionable as to its usefulness unless we can identify a more specific source than this. Could you correct this please? Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 13:04, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Regarding the File:GOP Straw Poll Results 2012.svg[edit]

Illinois is colored in with purple, meaning that Gingrich's measly 32 votes out of 98 (In the Winnebago County GOP straw poll)out weighs Paul's 1,907 out of 3,649 in the Illinois State Straw Poll. As a resident of Illinois, I believe it is only statistically fair that my state should be colored in with gold again.

I am a Paul supporter myself. And spent the two weeks before the straw poll trying to get Paul supporters to the poll via the Facebook page. If you wanted it to stay gold, you should've gone and casted a vote. Gage (talk) 03:06, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Can you briefly explain on the image page how you are determining this? I took a look at it and was quite surprised that Paul was listed for Iowa considering that he didn't win the w:Iowa Straw Poll in Ames. If you aren't just using the main straw poll for each state, it would be nice to know what you are using. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 21:05, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

mitt romney photos[edit]

Hello,

My name is Hayley Doshay and I am an art director for the News and Review, an alt-weekly newspaper in Sacramento,CA, Chico, CA, and Reno, NV. I would like to request permission to use one of your photos on Mitt Romney on the cover of this week's Reno issue. It will just be part of a photo-illustration along with free-use, official portraits of Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum. I won't be able to put a credit right next to the photo, but will be able to put the credit on the inside somewhere, most likely on the mast-head. Please let me know if this would be possible. I am not a wiki commons user, but you can write me back at hayleyd-at-newsreview.com.

Thanks!!

What an awesome opportunity, Gage! Hopefully arrangements can be worked out with you and the News and Review. :-) Killiondude (talk) 17:47, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Coloring maps with unchosen/unbound delegates[edit]

en:Republican Party presidential primaries, 2012 uses your File:Republican Party presidential primaries results, 2012.svg in its infobox. It's occurred to a few of us that having solidly-colored states where the delegates are unchosen/unbound may give the false impression that the state's delegation supports that candidate. Your thoughts would be welcomed on that topic - see en:Talk:Republican Party presidential primaries, 2012#Missouri. Thank you. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 09:44, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

2012 Results map[edit]

File:Republican Party presidential primaries results, 2012.svg seems to have an unusual color choice. The agreed upon coloring for the 2012 primaries for months through the Statewide opinion polling for the Republican Party presidential primaries, 2012 page has been Romney: Dark Red, Gingrich: Yellow, and Santorum: Light Blue. I think more centralization may be necessary. Bigvinu (talk) 20:01, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Making the countymap from Republican Primaries, 2012 colorblind friendly[edit]

You have been doing some good work on the county map, so I would like to direct you attention to the need of making this map more colorblind friendly. I have posted this message on the talkpage of the articles using the map to get help from experienced mapmakers.
Since it is supertuesday and the maps will change a lot this will be a good time to make some good changes to the county map. So to all the mapguys out there:

  • Could we make the county map colorblind friendly? (it would be good to use the same colors already used in the state map in the infobox)
  • Could we included the Northern Marianna Islands in the territories?
  • Wouldnt it be a good time to loose the Missouri nonbinding primary? No one is really going to care about it after the Missouri cacuses anyway.
  • And if anyone has time: Could we update and make the schedule map colorblind friendly?

Here is some tips from a colorblind person, posted earlier about the schedule map: "Here is my problem with the primary schedule map: February is the same color as May. April is the same color as march. I recommend using the following colors: Red, blue, gray, orange, yellow, black. The colors need to be at maximal saturation. Red and black need to be different in brightess. The gray needs to be not at all blue. The orange needs to be different from the yellow in brightness. NO GREEN. NO BROWN. NO PURPLE. NO PINK. I can't see any difference at all between blue and purple. And using pastel colors is just cruel because the colorblind have lower detection thresholds for saturation. Also, another way to code maps is with patterns. I'd love to see more pattern-coded maps. The colorblind actually have superior pattern-detection systems as a direct result of being colorblind." 85.83.95.235 20:20, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

GOP primaries Wisconsin county map[edit]

I've noticed that in the results page of the GOP primaries, Wisconsin doesn't have a county results map unlike most other states. Unfortunately, I don't have the skill of map-drawing. Can you locate a county map of Wisconsin that can be used on the results page, or, given the number of county maps that you've drawn, draw one yourself if a suitable map cannot be found? Thanks.

Alaska Election Results[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering where you found the Alaska elections results by borough in 2008 on the map that appears on the United States presidential election in Alaska, 2008 page. I'm a numbers guru and I would love to look at the data if you have it, or know of a place where I go to obtain it. Thank you!

Cropped are not exact duplicates[edit]

If you review Commons:Deletion policy it specifically talks about exact duplicates. If an image has been cropped, it is not an exact duplicate and cannot be speedied through use of duplicate, so I have to refuse them. If you wish to see them deleted, then please take through a normal deletion process, though to note that if they have been specifically cropped, it has been for a user's reason and they are less likely to get the community's approval, especially when being used at a sister site.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:00, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

US Presidential Election 2012 for Alaska[edit]

Hello!

I was wondering where you got the information to create the map of Alaska. Did you use raw vote counts? Where can we view this data? Thanks!

Your Comic-com work[edit]

Hi, I'd like to thank you very much for your outstanding work bringing us all these great Comic-Con photographs. It's much appreciated! Do you prefer to import them systematically to Commons, or can we feel free to pick and choose from your Flickr stream? Sandstein (talk) 06:16, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Please let me upload the photos. Gage (talk) 02:36, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Doug Drexler[edit]

Hi Gage, I noticed on your Flickr account that you have a couple of shots of Michael Forest next to Doug Drexler at the 2013 Pheonix Comicon. I was wondering if you had any shots of Drexler on his own, as there isn't an image of him on his En-Wiki article. Thanks! Miyagawa (talk) 20:04, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Assembly Seating Chart[edit]

How did you create this https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/111th_United_States_Senate_Structure.svg? I mean how did you create this assembly seating chart? If by any software, then please send me a link to this software. I want to create an assembly seating chart similar to this chart. Would be thankful to you if you tell me. --███▓▒░░ Asad Warraich ░░▒▓███ (talk) 08:57, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
