when I first saw it. Thought it was one of the greatest ideas for a pro-life video ever.

A terrific post, Prof.  Can you imagine someone saying, "I am personally opposed to slavery, but I will not force my opinions on any slaveowners"?  The analogy is not perfect, but you'd think it would resonate with somebody.  Great job of dispensing with the so-called "middle ground."

Murder would seem to be murder no matter the circumstances. I understand how and why you feel the way you do but it doesn't make it right. IMO

Liberals Are Pro-Life For Their Health Care (none / 0) (#12)
by Bruce on Sat Aug 08, 2009 at 04:55:43 PM EST
... but not everyone's.  Those arguing for nationalized health care argue it is a right because of the phrase in the Declaration of Independence: "... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."  If the founders' intention was to preserve life, goes the argument, then they intended that the government does everything possible to that end... and, obviously, government-managed health care is critical to that end.

Despite that bit of rhetoric, these liberals are willing to split hairs over "life."  If a child in its mother's womb hasn't been born, then it isn't really alive.  If it isn't really alive, then it doesn't have the right to life that is the premise for their nationalized health care.  At the other end, the elderly with severe health problems are "just barely alive."  So the elderly should be given counseling and placed in medical warehouses rather than expensive procedures.  Life, then, is what they make it.

Given that, how can you be surprised at the inconsistency of our Governor?
