I'd also be inclined to argue that the uninformed zombies are the callers, and not the young serviceman in uniform.  'Ol blathering Beckmann wasn't too assertive with Sheriff dimwit in that interview as far as I'm concerned - it was a mutual handwringing fest.  Another point missing: Sheriff dimwit's uniform is no loftier than the airman's, and Sheriff dimwit's garb is a helluva lot more deceptive if a criminal chose to don his uniform as the sheeple bow to LEO's as their solemn armed protectors.
