Because Cain decided to answer the charges by tucking his tail between his legs and ending the campaign. And don't tell me he did it "for his family" because someone who decides to run for President has already decided that his family is way down the list in terms of importance.

The logic behind this post is faulty. No one is putting Cain on trial. But Cain should have known damn well that his past was going to be put under a microscope the moment he declared his candidacy. That's true for any Republican candidate (not dems, of course).

Whatever the circumstances of the sexual harassment settlements, Cain should have known it was going to emerge. Yet he was completely unprepared when it did and his campaign flailed away at several different threads. That's telling.

. . . that, given what I know of Gloria Allred's reputation, the reason that this was done pro bono publico ("for the public good") is because Allred all but knew that she'd never have to spend so much as one hour actually in court or settlement negotiations. It's easy to work for free when you don't have to do any work in the first place.

But it will be interesting to see if either Sharon Bialek or Ginger White somehow quietly right their financial ships, and follow the money trail from there.
