      The reason that people oppose for-profit charter schools is that charter schools are publicly funded and cannot charge tuition, although they can receive private donations. They are effectively public schools that do not have to follow many of the rules that regular public schools do. As charter schools are publicly funded, the objection to for-profit charter schools is that they should not be able to profit off of tax dollars and donations, as all tax dollars and donations should go towards the running and betterment of the school.

      Also, this objection only exists for public schools. There is no substantial objection on either side of the aisle to the existence of for-profit private schools that do charge tuition.
