Getting back on topic, another driver I spoke to a few days back threw out the suggestion that the reason that Washington is doing what they are doing is because they're afraid of grumbling about an "American Spring" taking place sometime next year.

Effectively shutting down sites promoting something the government doesn't support that week, vocal leaders and promoters "disappearing" without a trace.
