Expanding on my comments (none / 0) (#13)
by Republican Michigander on Wed Jan 04, 2012 at 04:48:19 PM EST
I don't know Randy or Cindy. I'm judging my comments based on the Detroit News article and the exclusion of "PACs". I always get suspicious when I hear about people claiming to speak for "Tea Party" or movements in general.

My concern for Big Fish in small pond was over being in the middle of a rather infamous in some quarters firefight back in 02 in a supposedly 2nd Amendment organization. Some reading this may be familiar with it. I'll just say it's a five letter organization starting with M, ending in O, and was taken over by a former speaker of the Michigan house in 02. There's still remnants of that dustup around out there. That got nasty. The reason I got in that scrap in the first place was also about buddy endorsements, especially when my own name was on records of that PAC and I didn't have a vote. I ripped the endorsements publicly due to the voting records and my own personal credibility and all hell broke loose, especially being allied with the old guard.

That's what I hinted at with my "10 years, 20 years" comment. Being in party and PAC politics for now 11 years (besides just following the issues) and experiencing that type of firefight, avoiding and dodging some other firefights, and seeing what is happening here gets my guard up.

I don't like coronations. I don't like the coronation attempt for Hoekstra. I don't like a counter coronation to "stop Hoekstra," especially before the actual campaigning is really beginning. We have primaries. This shouldn't be done at all at least until after May if it is going to be done. Who is going to even be on the ballot?

This was attempted by the establishment (and some grassroots) in 2010. Right to Life and the Chamber endorsed Mike Cox. Now, as a 2nd Amendment guy, that was great. SAFR-PAC supported Mike, who was the best running on that issue. SAFR PAC's endorsement wasn't very controversial because of Mike's record was just that good. Snyder was graded unknown. Chamber and life issues? Mike's good on life issues, but not the only pro-life one running then. It was an attempt to stop Snyder and didn't work. Everyone had their guy. The establishment was split there as was the grassroots. Myself and two other 8th district officers discussed this and all voted for three different people. The establishment and most grassroots were united in their views with Snyder and he still won. Kinda like McCain in 08.

Right now we need to let the primary process take its course. It won't even heat up in Michigan until March at the earliest, after the presidential primary.
