I know that you've read the Declaration of Independence, and that you know that "life" is listed first of the three chief rights that all people are endowed with by their Creator.  I will assume that you believe that it's the government's responsibility to protect people against the infringement upon their rights by others, and that murder (regardless of what we call it) is certainly an infringement upon the right to life.
