Not only is this strike blowing up in their collective faces, but they are dumbfounded at the lack of support from labor in the region.
Typically, whenever one union goes on strike in Detroit, others will honor the strike and not cross the picket line, and/or they will stage very well publicized "sympathy pickets" where the heads of local unions (i.e. King, Hoffa, Garrett or Hansen) along with a small cadre they bring with them will walk the picket line for a short time in support of their union brothers and sisters (always making certain that the moment is well documented).
To the best of my knowledge, this has never happened.
But then again, when you have union members who have lost their jobs, their homes and are lucky to have found something making scarcely above minimum wage, it's very difficult to relate to someone who bemoans the fact that they cannot "survive" on $75,000/yr.
