      I laughed when I read the girl's statement that it would save people a lot of money.  Sure, it might save her some money if the top 2% of the country is subsidizing her Internet usage through their tax dollars, but when people get FREE Internet, that would drive the cost of providing it up even more.

      You would see a skyrocket in bandwidth usage, meaning that taxpayers would be pumping more money into this national WiFi system.

      And imagine the complaints we'd hear when the network inevitably goes down for a bit.  Government is inefficient enough - they don't need to be sticking their nose into the WiFi business.
