      Regarding Libertarians on <defense and how they handle immigration>, it seems to me that state governors have fairly minimal influence. On defense, a governor can't even keep his own state's National Guard from being sent overseas, if the president decides to. What effect, positive or negative, could governors have on national defense? Not much I can see, compared to far more consequential powers inside the state.
      On immigration? Perhaps a bit more there, though still not that much- maybe some administrative action, if it's not blocked by outside forces. The best example there is Arizona. It remains to be seen whether governors can do anything at all, given federal court decisions. Suppose, worst case, Gov. Brewer had vetoed the state's new immigration law. Given popular feeling, would the veto not have been overturned by the legislature soon enough? Outside of being a spokesman/cheerleader for defense of the border, do governors have much power to do anything about immigration?
