      private schools, filled with teachers who care more about the students than tenure, would fill the void in those inner city neighborhoods. Watch how fast they would spring up if KG's proposal was announced. There would be COMPETITION.

      Your post assumes that the problem lies with the parents, or the students - NEVER with the teachers and their lack of teaching ability.

      While there are plenty of good teachers, there are thousands of crappy ones too. They are not being weeded out due to the union, and the certification system.
