Conservatism destroying the country? (none / 0) (#11)
by JGillman on Sat Nov 27, 2010 at 07:46:30 PM EST
Ed, its hard to make that argument, especially when there hasn't been a great groundswell of conservatism till recently.

Even with Reagan, we still had liberals running congress. Reagan cut taxes and rebuilt a defense system marginalized by the once upon a time WORST president ever, and the successes enjoyed by Clinton were the result of conservative control in the legislature.

Were they perfect?  Nope.  But the closest we have had to fiscal sanity was with those folks in control of the check book.

Ed, I know that your comment wasn't intended for me but I felt I'd try politely to address your response.

I do not see how conservativism is destroying the country unless you try to attribute authentic conservative status to everyone who claims to be a conservative.  John McCain claimed to be a conservative in front of certain audiences as did Trent Lott, Tom Delay, Bart Stupak, and Lyndon LaRouche.  These are all people who want to grow the size of government while exerting more control over people. What they claim to be is irrelevant.

People who vote consistently based on sound economic (conservative) principles are not destroying the country.
