Sen Switalski is doing something similar by attacking the health care plan in a "town hall" meeting that he had hosted earlier.

Switalski, who in the spring declared his 2010 candidacy to challenge longtime Rep. Sander Levin in the 2010 Democratic primary, said he is also unhappy with the Washington approach to health care.

The legislator said he's confounded by Democrats' insistence on a "public option"-- essentially Medicare for all -- to cover those who lack insurance. The public option plan did not exist five years ago, he said, but now it's become a Democratic mantra.

"There are five or six things that are really bad that we could fix," he said. "Instead, Democrats in Congress are saying, 'We can't do anything unless we get everything.' We've got to be flexible."
