Victimless crimes, because prostitution and drug consumption are merely malum prohibitum, and people really shouldn't be punished for them.

      What say you?

All the Home Invasions assumedly for supporting that pesky "malum prohibitum" drug consumption thingy?

Even if the home invasions occurred so that the chick could buy drugs, it has nothing to do with whether drug consumption should be legal or not.

I agree with you about what the legislature should be focusing on.  As a member of the minority in the House, I unfortunately do not get a say in the agenda.

I would love to stop all cuts to the prison system and focus on the Mackinac Center's suggestions, but that is simply not realistic.  The agenda is driven by Governor Granholm and Speaker Dillon and I believe that it is the responsibility of the minority party to criticize bad ideas and offer ways to make these bad ideas more suitable.

The Governor is determined to reduce the prison population.  And rather than stand by as she does it her way, I have proposed creating alternative sentencing for a small group of first time offenders.  These sentences would include probation, drug testing, rehab, fines, community service, electronic tethers, etc.

I don't think it's a perfect system.  But I do think that it's better than what the Governor is trying to do quietly.
