      -As I suggested, the amount spent on lottery advertising is certainly something that is reasonable to debate, but this DetNews/Charlie Cain article from 2007 seems to suggest that lottery advertising has an impact on sales...

      "It makes about as much sense as advertising the fact that we have nice lakes and trees.  Oh wait, we do that too..."
      -Is this is a reference to the "Pure Michigan" ads?  Those ads are played around the country and are designed to boost tourism.  Regarding those ads, Laura Berman in the DetNews recently wrote:

      "The ads have been wildly successful -- driving up visits to the state's travel Web site, michigan.org, especially among affluent households, from 17 percent to as much as 48 percent this year..."
