      Barcodes and tattoos?  This isn't permanently affixed to you.  It's on a drivers license.  There's no requirement for it to actually work.  

      I imagine it's related to the deal made to allow Michigan residents to use their DL's as passports to go to Canadia.

      I'm not worried that someone like me could create a device to scan the thing across the airwaves.  There's a much simpler technique to ensure your privacy:

      Just like the passport RFIDs - you bust the thing with a hammer.
