Two issues:
First, THIS is why Republicans lose.
People get so caught up in morality crusade arguments they forget government is a civic body. Then they over-extend by painting it all with grossly simplified terms such as "abortion on demand". That's not being pro-life, it's being-anti-choice and pro-government.... Read More
When in doubt, yes, err on the side of life, but that applies as people, not government coercion. Unless and until there is an absolute and undisputable answer on this, government should let people live their lives. Advocate all you want to stem the tide on abortion, and I agree with you, but if you're against government running your life and making your choices, then you're against it and you don't make exceptions for things where people disagree with you.
Abortion itself is social/moral issue. Banning it, government action, is a civic issue. It's entirely possible, and rational, to be against abortion and against banning it.
Second, Jerry Zandstra sent an email out where he talked with Rick Snyder and he's given him a pass. It's only the over-zealous "ban now" crusade claiming Snyder wants to kill babies.
So, there are probably plenty of genuine civic issues, like economics, to worry about. Let's stop pissing all over each other from moral soapboxes and agree to fix and limit the government, shall we?
