      Eight year recession... Are you aware that the production of automobiles in this country INCREASED 4.3% between 2001-2005 (this despite the post 911 recession)?

      The big secret is that it was those foreign nameplates doing the building and the hiring of AMERICAN workers for same. But, of course, certain attitudes made it unlikely that they would put those plants in Michigan. Why build your product in the middle of an area where so many people refuse to buy it?

      Out of a job yet? Not surprising if you drive your potential employers to other states because you senselessly discrimate against their business.

      There is the issue that everyone has already raised, that Michigan has done it's best to scare away the thriving Japanese automakers, while the UAW did it's best to keep the big three US automakers at a severe financial disadvantage.  In effect, we worked hard at killing the golden goose, while ensuring that no good replacement would choose to roost in Michigan any time soon.  Sure, consumer choice played it's part, but Detroit dug it's own grave over the course of many years.

      I suspect that if we were a "right to work" state, this current storm wouldn't be so severe.
