    It is not after one term served, but it is after 6 years served that legislators get lifetime benefits. Still doesn't seem right, does it?

    ...points of common sense to the issue. I commend him for his leadership and hope to help him change it if he cannot get it done this time around. Bringing it in line with other state employee plans is a congruent, fair strategy.

    As for pensions, the 401(k) is among the best alternatives; however, in the private sector, employer contributions normally happen to one degree  or another, especially when considering a profit-sharing rationale. In government, there is no profit in play; therefore, this component would be and should be missing.
