    Go to your local newspaper online and search "smoking ban."

    And kick back and read the letters to the editor.  People aren't worried about safety as much as they are venting hatred at smokers, making ridiculous assertions about the amount of smoke in restaurants, and so on.

    Unfortunately, I think this one is an example of the legislature listening to the people... after the people got wound up on bogus science, and a general need to hate someone.  Blame the "special interests" for beating the drum in the media, blame the people for falling for it.

    is that restaurants are making market choices already without big brother.  Some places cater to a smoking crowd and non-smokers will quickly learn to avoid those places if smoke is their big concern when dining out.

    As there are more non-smokers than smokers, restaurants that do not satisfactorily accommodate non-smokers will learn the economic feedback.  I have no problem with restaurants that give you a choice of smoking or non-smoking sections... and then ensure the ventilation is adequate to keep smoke in its designated area.  Then everyone is happy... and no one has the interference of government PC police.
