    The difference between felonies and misdemeanors is the amount of punishment.

    The difference is supposed to be significant of the difference between two crimes.  

    Once you've served your punishment, why shouldn't you be allowed to run?  I see you saying "this is the stopping point, this arbitrary line goes right HERE --->", but I don't see you explaining why it should be there.

    Perhaps our inflamed sense of morality should eliminate anyone with more than 6 parking tickets to run for office.  I mean, if you can't follow the rules on something simple like parking your car, why should we allow you to make rules for other people to follow?

    In lieu of that, let the electorate directly decide.  That's what elections are for.  And if the criminal-ridden electorate decide it's okay to be represented by a murderer or armed robber, or someone who beat his wife, or someone who wrote a bad check... then let them be represented by the criminals.
