    Reducing funding... (5.00 / 1) (#6)

Man, just think back to how upset you were about cutting $122 per student (out of a $180 increase) to public schools.  I thought liberals really "cared" about education?

My bad.  The MEA/NEA brochures just say they want better pay and better benefits for teachers, with no competency testing.  The NEA chairman said they do not negotiate to help children.

Man, I would absolutely love to cut funding to underperforming public schools.  Let's fire underperforming teachers, and hold school districts accountable.  Let's shut down the ones that are absolutely failing, like in Detroit.

Unless that's one of Granholm's accomplishments, too... (Tanking the graduation rate in DPS).

NoviD, if one of us had said, "let's cut school funding by 50%" and it was in the context of public schools, you'd be the first to accuse of us shutting down public schools.   It wouldn't guarantee closure - the schools could still choose to spend their $ as they chose - but you know what the result would be.

This is why per pupil funding is a such a consistent measure - legislatures can't pick favorites among districts.

Of course, I don't want to cut public school funding by dollar, and I want to ensure more $ reach students and even the real teachers pockets (rather than admin or union administrators)
