    Doesn't take much... (5.00 / 1) (#7)

...when the current business climate is this bad, it doesn't take a whole lot for it to improve.  Not to mention business leaders have to be of that mindset... if they aren't, and the economy gets worse, they're shuttering up.  We can all hope for it, but some of us aren't quite so rosy (not to mention, with it being Detroit's Chamber, you're going to have more support for Granholm than just about any other Chamber of Commerce in the state).

And how does the fact that UofM and MSU's research systems do well say anything about the state's economy, the budget situation, or the legislature's priorities?  (Talk about being off topic.)  In fact, looks like the fruits of said research aren't being applied here, which would make them even better candidates for being cut loose than they would be otherwise, not to mention would save the state a huge amount of money... what business does the state have in subsidizing a system that provides other states with research capital and talented, well-educated workers?  (Talk about ignoring the facts.)

The SBT replacement is something, but hopefully it's avoiding that whole "wealth tax" thing that Dillon was prattling on about earlier.  That just seems like it could be disastrous for certain types of industries (i.e. banks) operating in Michigan.

"To all those whom I have not yet offended: Please stand by, and I will work to remedy the situation as soon as possible."

    of course we do... (5.00 / 1) (#8)

because I don't, in all seriousness, know how it could get any worse.  The question is how many businesses will be able to weather the storm, and how many more will be forced to close.  We've already lost tens of thousands of businesses, and there are probably another 20-30k teetering on the brink right now.  I'd love to see a stronger business climate in Michigan, but I don't see any signs of a turnaround for at least another two years.
