You have it. We want it. And thanks to the power of government, we’re just going to take it from you anyway.

“Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce.” – Ayn Rand, “Atlas Shrugged”

{Continued below the fold}

Amid the flurry of various tax hikes and renewals on the ballot in Wayne County (there actually is quite a bit…don’t just take my word for it…see for yourself), there is an remarkable proposal literally buried at the back of the August ballot that takes a page directly from Karl Marx himself.

With students (and taxpayers) “disappearing”  at an alarming rate, the Wayne County Intermediate School District, also known as Wayne RESA, is pulling an interesting trick in order to generate revenue.

Purportedly allowable under Prop A, the district is asking voters to approve a 2-mill “enhancement millage” for the next six years.

But unlike other millages you may be familiar with, where the money collected is distributed back among where it was collected from geographically. Wayne RESA wants to collect the money from the remaining taxpayers in the district as a whole, and then directly allocate it to each individual pupil.

In the end, some people will be receiving more than what they would be paying into the system. Conversely, some districts will be receiving less than what they would potentially be paying in.

And yes, that tired standby argument is already being bandied about.

Recently quoted in The Detroit News, Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators Executive Director William Miller said this in support of the millage;

“For communities, this is the opportunity to step up and provide badly needed resources for the entire county. It’s a benefit to all the students to pass this millage.”

After all, we cannot “forget”  the children (again).

I can’t help but wonder if Mr. Miller is aware of the fact that those “resources” might be needed more elsewhere? Not only that, but to eventually obtain them, they must first be taken from those who have actually earned them.

Why would a proposal that is a “top priority” according to their own polling (which I cannot find anything supporting this claim), need to have Wayne County go in and impose a new tax on their behalf?

Shouldn’t people be freely giving the district as much as they see fit if this were really true?

“From each according to their ability, to each according to their need” is obviously resonating very well with the democrats in Wayne County.

Will democrats from across Michigan be taking a cue from their example and propose their own redistributionalist plan in future elections across Michigan?

Will Gov. Snyder, Speaker Bolger and Sen. Richardville (has he come back from Europe yet) be throwing their support behind this?

After being continually nickeled-and-dimed will Atlas finally shrug?

Stay tuned…

    OK.. SO if those school districts who are RECEIVING the 'enhancement' stand to get Two dollars for every ONE they kick in.. sounds like a bargain! School district based redistribution!
