MiCPAC – Michigan Conservative Political Action Conference returns to its roots at the original location Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Holt, Michigan, Capitol City Baptist Church. 9AM-5:30 PM.

MiCPAC is the headliner event held each year by Michigan Conservative Union (MCU). The Friday night VIP reception will be in Lansing with featured speakers, special guests, sponsors and donors. Several Presidential candidates have been invited, and there will be a straw poll. Organizers say:

MiCPAC is the one statewide place each year where all conservative elements are represented and network, including economic, social, evangelical, life, 1st, 2nd & 10th Amendment, liberty, tax limitation, academe, think tanks and business leaders, tea party and other grass roots leaders and activists.

Among the significant items we will address are
• preparations for the presidential primary and conventions;
• the true nature of Michigan’s political process, corruption, fraud and lack of transparency;
• the most significant messages from the founding of the Nation;
• proper relationships between church and state;
• The true nature of conservatism and why it remains relevant today;
• strategy and tactics for electoral and legislative victories;
• Why Michigan’s public education keeps skyrocketing costs despite mediocre results;
• How we must defend the Constitution and avoid another risky Constitutional Convention
• How and why we must encourage more Christians and conservatives to pursue public office
• Changing public policies by changing public knowledge and attitudes
• Updates on projects Kirk and Friedman, Operation Watchdog and working task forces
• Working effectively with, and supporting, other organizations in Michigan on common goals
• Effective strategies and tactics for the 2016-2018 election cycles
Michigan Conservative Union has been Michigan’s foremost conservative leadership team since 1975. A portion of MCU Membership applies to MiCPAC

With all of the political races and events happening this year, these are cannot miss events!

    (The MCC):
    "We're Committed to our Founding Fathers' Principles and our Republican Party Platform"

    What previously stated platform are we talking about here..and is this document a local, state or national (detailed) plan for 2016 (hopefully) NOT akin to our previous (competing?) "Contract for Liberty" ??? (which predictably went nowhere due to a lack of specific action).

    The election is in November. If we're going to pull off the biggest come-from-behind upset in American political history...shouldn't we all be on the same page by now...and exactly when ARE these upcoming primary filing deadlines?

    If I hear one more "founding fathers principles" again without hearing exactly who (by name and numbers) we are going after and why 'within' the same party that we will be taking back in record time?..I'm out. What will we be fighting them with (again) this time...costumes, tea bags, pocket constitutions and waving Gadsdens?

    I don't want a VIP ticket to have my picture taken with Tom McMillin...I want McMillin teaching a rotating session all day long/answering questions as to exactly who the enemy is (first hand) and how to defeat them just as nastily as they would fight us should they (ever) respect the effort.

    The 'rah rah' got immediately old back in September of '09 when many of us with goosebumps marched down Pennsylvania Avenue expecting to hear a concrete plan of immediate action vs many speaker's 5-minutes-of-fame-swept-up-in-the-moment (same) "Battle Cry".

    Give me Tom on a Friday night, nothing to eat or drink (no comedy) in an unheated ice arena with no chairs for even a third of what is being asked here...and let's see who shows up, what gets done and how many (true) goosebumps we can again re-create.

      I get what you are saying. But there has to be SOME rah rah. And a couple times a year where like-minded folks can come together and share their local war stories from their own regions of the state is not exactly overdoing it.

      As of yesterday, Battle Cry added Dave Agema to the speakers list. Given the recent rejection of his impeachment resolution, I imagine he will have a few not-so "rah Rah" things to talk about.

        My hope is that attendees ask tough questions early and often as to where any reinvention (if that is the case) of previous grassroots movements is headed for the next 9 months.
        If $60 a pop (or more) isn't necessarily revealing a whole lot of shining young faces in that crowd at either event (regardless of cost) then we might just have a problem that will be awful hard to solve before school lets out for the last time or begins again this fall.

        I would also offer that if shared sacrifice is the one concept that nobody is willing to discuss openly (or even become angry about as tea party gatherings I've attended have attested to) then I suppose there's no hurt in offering comedy or any other diversions (founding father themed soap box orators in period garb) either.

        i applaud everyone who is attending this event...I just question whether the urgency and methods were just as strong/necessarily 'sparse' as they were when spies were being executed by the King with exactly the same country at risk..

    I for one will be attending BattleCryMichigan and looking forward to it. And to JD, the election starts much earlier than November. There's March Primary, the election of precinct delegates (I assume you've been a delegate) in the August primary. Then there's congressional district caucuses, election to the state executive committee, election of delegate to the Electoral College in each congressional district, and the county convention elections of executive committees and delegates to state convention. Be there or be square!

      Sue,
      While taking back the party should be the goal and all manner/order that you have described the path...why haven't these strategies been put forth in more detail and for literally years now for the average voter to understand?

      In other words, if our movement is all about (back door) electing those to the Republican party who have no profile, public voice or recorded opinion on current issues of the day that are any different (for all we know) than who is there now or (for all we know) running parallel campaigns as well...what are we gaining in the end? Wouldn't we have had more quality precinct delegates over the years if each precinct would have been broken down (publicly) in to who is propping up the establishment, who is seeking change and exactly why in terms of each local soap opera? Let's admit it..anybody looking to join a conservative movement over the past how many years..couldn't even find an ongoing online conversation concerning local conservative issues..to save their soul! We're seeking to crash a Party which has deep roots in ALL of our communities and which attracts literally ALL of the movers/shakers in it to annual meetings of like minds...yet we know absolutely nothing about those seeking to upset the apple cart 24/7/365?

      I mentioned the filing deadline for candidates due to those who feel that they must somehow play all those reindeer games (which I obviously approve of) or not. If there isn't anybody else running against the establishment candidate and the establishment candidate has to go 'regardless' (which has been more and more the case of late) ..we haven't been planning ahead very well in terms of angering the electorate (minimum).

      If we aren't (more than) willingly receiving the inside skinny from battle hardened politicians such as McMillin or often 'courted' local precinct delegates as to how literally our own neighbors have been playing these nasty games in real time and more often than not succeeding?...there is little hope that new blood will be stepping forward on either stage anytime soon.

      It's as if the Tea Party has become just that with crumpets/Corona/comedy on one night and two guys from Virginia who took down RINO Ryan's 'young gun' workout pal the next. We don't need to emulate the Republican back-slapping parties of the past...we need an all out brawl with more than a few prisoners taken already (in my humble opinion).

    JD--you are right about precinct delegates (PD) lacking profile, etc. The GOP ignores PD's which is a HUGE mistake on their part. Not too many years ago, as a PD, I could call any elected official, say I'm a PD from such and such town and we have some concerns that could use your assistance. It was jumped on and a solution or a way to a solution was forthcoming--all because that important PD made the contact. PD's have power and is an elected position--elected by your immediately neighbors who count on you for help with our government. Not any more--the GOP abuses its delegates, abuses the rules, ignores them and tosses them aside until they need them again. Shame on the GOP for its arrogance; if not out and out stupidity.

    The Dems treat their PD's with respect, organize them, and reward them as does the Libertarian and US Taxpayer party's.

      Sue--thanks for the confirmation in regards how things actually work. You may be the first yet to educate others on this critical topic in a no-nonsense manner. If you would, please correct me here if these facts are not accurate:
      1) NO party is obliged to accept ANY member outright...period (perhaps the most important thing to remember)
      2) Keep your (cough) 'friends' close and you enemies closer.
      3) There is no reason to bother yourself with your enemy (uh 'friend') if his or her house has fallen apart and there is nobody on their way (locally) to fight those (you) who indeed pushed it down.
      4) There is no other more important job than recruiting/running opposition candidates in election primary years (party 'affiliation' be damned). Primary candidate filing deadlines are everything.
      5) Running as a Republican doesn't guarantee you a sufficient level of support from anybody. If they even receive so much as a 'hint' that you will not tow the establishment line while in office...forget it (see what happened to Hoogendyke when he couldn't even defend himself from Upton claiming that Jack told him he was indeed doing a bang up job...and that he wouldn't run against him).
      6) If the soap opera that is each Republican district isn't publicly explained to our young people...they will never trust them to lead us. As with begging former legislator McMillin to conduct (again) public workshops explaining how Lansing works and who the worst of the worst indeed are both in office and worse yet on the lobbying level...there is no other way forward.
      7) It has been very hard to trust many (not necessarily all or yourself) who have crawled in to the belly of these local RINO led beasts in the recent past..yet 'seemingly' emerge silent/unscathed and definitely NOT any more outraged for the experience. It's as if many are told that you can 'stay' a Republican now that your Tea Party is literally no more..yet you'll merely be sporting the bumper sticker should you speak out on anything of consequence which involves US here LOCALLY where just as much corruption or more is rampant. The end result of this "information blackout" as to what actually goes on day to day locally is comedy nights, $60-$80 admissions rivaling the very swankiest of RINO events and a lot of flag-waving, bloviating about a time well past or dead heroes who would advise us (today) to simply make our own way with our youth in tow ..or not at all.

      People aren't participating as they once did because few of us out here feel that the state Republican Party hasn't won handily without much effort put forth. We abandoned our youth early on in the fight. They were the only voters Republicans feared before older voters were convinced to keep silent lest cutbacks be pointed their way as well. Example: Libertarians almost upset Republican establishment figurehead Margaret O'Brien last time around and we haven't heard from them since (apparently they were not convinced that a comedy night would 'move' them to do it again).

      My advice to kids?

      Don't trust anyone over 50.
      They've been arguing with the people presently trampling on your future for years...and really haven't become all that upset about it enough to be kicked out of the club.

    Given that Battle Cry for Michigan is now denying entry to certain people who are (I suppose) "too Republican" at their take-pack-the-Republican-Party event...who ARE the top 3 or 4 'pure' conservatives making decisions of this magnitude (or any other behind-the-scenes) both before AND 'at' this event?

    With the second question being...if precinct delegates are (every day) dealing with these exact same people being excluded (now) in THEIR quest to take back this party...what do these same "too Republican" types say when the time comes for 'us' to to show up playing OUR Tea Partier roles at THEIR events?

      So now our side has themselves in a bind.
      They won't reveal who even the top 3 or 4 people running this event are here.
      So (naturally) then..anybody with even a whiff of BattleFIELD common sense starts asking the following (from http://westmipolitics.blogspot.com):
      "..There are good people working and have been working for years to make a difference for conservatism in the party. I understand there is a committee of 20 people that make this decision but I also know who the true leaders are and that their pull outweighs others. I am therefore kindly asking those leaders to come to reason and allow National Committeewoman Kathleen Offner Berden an opportunity to be at the event. I am also asking speakers to also ask the leaders of the event to allow Kathleen Offner Berden the opportunity to attend the event. Thank you.".."

      Well played.
      The other side realizes that we aren't even willing to name who is behind this or just as importantly who is 2nd, 3rd or 4th in line of succession. They then reveal that there is a 20 person committee...yet throw in the suggestion that most are merely figureheads thrown in to make everybody feel good about themselves. Then comes the 'martyr' that every other person denied entry can be judged against as well as the first topic of conversation all election year with every single establishment type you may meet.

      I have come to the conclusion for many years now that many of these 'leaders' aren't just dumb or angry..but working to destroy this movement from the inside as well..which (obviously) none of us should be surprised at one bit.

        I wouldn't say that there is intent to destroy the movement from within. These events take too much effort to put together to waste on such things.

        I believe the concern they have with allowing certain party types is twofold. Many were dismayed when Calley took the stage to do the ceremony with Gamrat, and felt the pow wow had been sold out. Avoiding THAT particular part is issue number 1.

        Secondly, it is also a strategy session of sorts in how to deal with the entrenched and dangerous elements of the GOP which give the party its bad rep. Reducing exposure to those strategies will help activists be more effective.

        And now even more of them will want to go.

          "..Secondly, it is also a strategy session of sorts in how to deal with the entrenched and dangerous elements of the GOP which give the party its bad rep. Reducing exposure to those strategies will help activists be more effective..."

          How do we conduct a true "strategy session" with nothing but speakers on a stage?
          Or will these TRUE "strategy sessions" ONLY be taking take place between the "TRUE leaders" mentioned in the West Michigan Politics article above whise "..pull outweighs others.." (in the 20 member mystery 'admission committee')???.
          No announced breakout sessions on how to deal with "dangerous" individuals broken out by geography? How about even a session where activists may simply meet with others in their same area..with LEADERS within that same area...who 'supposedly' will tell us who all these "dangerous" people actually are?
          Do we really have any time LEFT (after all that we've wasted to date) to "reduce exposure to strategies" (or even "dangerous" individuals) with our movement about to repeat what happened at the last PowWow...or even worse?

          We can handle who the enemy is...so get it over with and simply publish their names here...OR name at the very least who 'our' friends are either running this show or unfortunate enough to be discounted outright (see the unlucky with no 'pull' mentioned above).

          This has gone well beyond ridiculous and morphed in to schoolyard fantasyland.

          What we're trying to do here (CS) is to define this grassroots movement as we've all witnessed it to date:
          A lot of flag waving and INSISTENCE that we all work 'within' a Party which can't even defend itself today and which will most likely NOT recover anytime soon. Patriotic voices intentionally stifled due to our unwillingness to take on the most powerful people in our communities toe-to-toe with an alternate Party that would have indeed been winning in 2016.
          Throw in the fact that 'now' the grassroots won't even sit in the same room with these same Republicans whose Party we were supposed to all "transform"?...and yeah, I believe that we not only let our children down...but that it was mainly the gray-haired folk who did it (me and you).

          We never attracted young people as they knew full well that we were all about.
          No self sacrifice on our end whatsoever to do the honorable thing on a doomed ship...and certainly no "women and children first!" type attitude.

          We're sunk...we know it...so let's quit pretending that our kids don't know "why" as well.

        We HAVE to stay on the sidelines...as this movement won't even let us in the door (see this Battle Cry event).

        From day one in this movement...EVERY SINGLE VOICE WHICH HAS 'DARED' STAND UP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OR THEIR SIMPLE MATH DETERMINED FUTURE HAS BEEN LOUDLY CHASTISED (see those who agree with CS even here sans any word otherwise).

        We're on the sidelines all right...as we have been ashamed to break bread with those who won't break bread with others...let alone their own grandchildren.
