"This is Detroit, Michigan, this is the hungry Capitol of the world and, we will come in there and squat in your house if you're not home."

"Stay on your property before your copper comes up missing"?  Those kind of events happen even with highly compensated Executive Protection while on the premises.  Congratulations on being #8 in the world here too, Detoilet.

The only exit question I have is, when did downstate "professional" news reporters officially start using Ebonics?

You've been gone from SE Michigan a long time? (none / 0) (#1)

I once briefly had a direct report at Ford 30 years ago. He proudly announced to me one day when I was discussing his performance with him, "I be havin' fo degrees." That following a question he asked one day after intensive instructions on his responsibilities, including walking him thru several scenarios he could expect to deal with, "why fo we be do dis?" Would not report to work on time, spent considerable time in the restroom primping his "Jeri curl" hair, and repeatedly informed white hourly employees that they weren't doing enough work and he was going to correct that. Oh, and of course was given a settlement by the company after threatening a racial discrimination lawsuit following his less than honorable exit from company employ. Cheaper than fighting it out in a SE Michigan courtroom.

I bet you can find "Hardcore Pawn" on TRU TV if you need a refresher.

Welcome to Detroit. Now go home! (none / 0) (#2)

I remember when this story first ran several months ago. The sad thing is (and the most UNDERreported story in town), squatters are increasingly spilling over into the surrounding cities.

In Harper Woods, Eastpointe, and Warren, the refugees from Detroit are taking it upon themselves to walk right in and take what they want.

Unlike the story above, these homes have been on the market for some time (a great reason to NOT put a Realtor sign advertising the fact that house is sitting empty), and the looters literally let themselves in.

I've had to do some quick PEX fix-it jobs on several of them owned by friends who have moved away. You'd be surprised at how much pipe they can steal in a very little amount of time (not to mention how much water damage it causes).

OABTW, watch a few other pieces from Andrea Isom. That's just her style of reporting.

She can (and has) done several reports w/o using "ebonics".
