Guys, if I didn't already have a full-time job (one that I'm quite happy with at that), then I'd be all over this job posting.

Are you looking for a career challenge that directly benefits the future of Michigan?  How about an opportunity to jump start your career by leading a citizen effort to fundamentally change state government and permanently reform the Michigan tax system?

To best advance the Michigan FairTax Proposal (MFTP), the Michigan Fair Tax Association (MFTA) Board of Directors has created the staff position of Executive Director so that we will have a person able to devote full time to the enactment of the MFTP.  It is expected that other staff positions will be created as we grow and as funds make this possible.  The advertisement showing the job description is posted below for your consideration of this position for yourself and/or other applicants you may want to refer for consideration.  Your assistance in recruiting the best possible Executive Director is an important part of our executive search, so please give your considered thought as to whom you could recommend for this most important leadership position and encourage them to apply.  Applications are to be sent to the special e-mail address shown in the description below.

The Michigan Fair Tax Association has an exciting career opportunity for the right individual to become it's first ever Executive Director.  We are seeking an organized leader to manage a public policy campaign that will improve Michigan's economy and the quality of life for all our citizens.

The Michigan Fair Tax Association is a Michigan-based not-for-profit organization.  Its mission is to replace Michigan's complex and unfair tax system with a simple retail sales tax.  The association was established only two years ago and current operations are performed by volunteer leaders.  The Board of Directors has chosen a direction which involves transitioning from a volunteer-led organization to a staff-led organization.  The Executive Director will become the top staff leader and provides oversight for operation of the Michigan Fair Tax Association, including raising money for his or her own compensation and operating budget.  The Executive Director will report directly to the association President and serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.

The new executive director can expect to work long hours but also to enjoy the personal reward that comes from leading a cause whose volunteers strongly support the Constitution of the United States and believe that people working together can make a difference.

The successful candidate will bring knowledge of organizational management and demonstrated success in: nonprofit board or volunteer leadership; strategic planning; special event fund raising; program development; and campaign strategy.

    KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Implement a business plan

    • Develop and manage an annual budget

    • Recruit and engage volunteers, local community, and corporate leaders

    • Achieve annual fund raising goals

    • Raise statewide awareness of the effort to reform our tax system by replacing it with a retail sales tax

    • Serve as a spokesperson for the Michigan Fair Tax reform effort.

    Essential Job Requirements:

    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

    • Proficient in the use of grassroots communication technologies

    • Outstanding volunteer leadership skills

    • Willingness to learn about state and federal tax policy

    • Respect for the U.S. Constitution, Michigan Constitution, and the political process

    • Self motivated and honest

    • Ability to write and implement an organizational business plan

    Additional Experience Desired:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a business-related program

    • Experience in fundraising, political campaigns, and public policy

    • Knowledge of not-for-profit organizations

    • Familiarity with the Michigan political process and willingness to become engaged in it

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to the MFTA - Search Committee at: search@mifairtax.org.  Only submissions to this address will be considered.  Resumes are being accepted until October 1st.

Thank you for your continued support to the cause that is the solution for Michigan.

Michigan Fair Tax Association - an equal opportunity employer.

I read the title and thought this was about the state of MI.  They need a new executive director too.
