    Raise the curtain.

BIIIIIIIIG DAY today.  Big enough that it required eight "I"s and full caps.  If something can be happening in the universe, err, well, in Michigan, then it is and it is happening today.

First and foremost, it is an election day.  If you're reading this, the polls are open and you haven't yet, stop everything you're doing and go vote.  There are tax hike proposals in seemingly every city, township and village in the State and far left extremists running for just about every school board seat available anywhere.

No, seriously, go vote.  We'll wait...

    ...

    ......

    ..........

Back?  What took you so long?  If you're in Detroit we already know it wasn't long lines, so don't try that excuse.  The Detroit News reports this morning that a measly fifteen percent of the registered voters in the D are expected to cast a ballot today to elect the city's next mayor.  Suppose that's what happens when you get a race between a pair of Democrats who are much more alike than they'd have you believe.  Don't give the voters a choice then don't be surprised when they don't bother showing up to make one.  Not even the 200,000 phantoms on the books.

Meanwhile, an hour and a half to the west, the Granholm-Cherry administration is set today to unveil their sweeping, shocking, devastating, budget-balancing spending cuts.  Except that they aren't sweeping, they certainly aren't shocking, the Dems' core constituency won't be devastated and they don't balance the budget.

Other than that, though, the administration is pitching a perfect game.

    Read on...

A lot has been made in the MSM the last couple of days about the Governor's decision to (pretend to) balance the budget on the backs of Michigan's first responders.  The Associated Press reports that a total cut of $300 million will include $40 million sliced from local revenue sharing, effectively giving every Lefty in the state the green light to ignore the fungiblity of money and lament the sudden necessity to lay-off cops and firefighters.  (Because trimming the local Mayor's staff and salary would make too much sense, apparently.)

Back at the Capitol the Governor will lead the way by laying off 100 state police officers.  Meanwhile, she's going to stick the thousands of bureaucrats who don't protect our streets with six whopping days of unpaid leave.

100 cops lose their jobs.  10,000 pencil pushers get an extra week of vacation this summer.  "I feel safer already."  (Name that Bill Paxton movie.)

And in all of this, our state's top elected officials, Governor Jennifer Granholm and Lieutenant Governor John Cherry, two experienced, learned, college educated adults seem to have forgotten their basic arithmetic.  Try to stay with me on this one...

$1,320,000,000.00 minus $300 million leaves a balance of $1,020,000,000.00.  $1.02 BILLION.  Not zero.

I know, I know.  Stimulus funds.  One-time budget fixes.  So what happens next year when that one-time money is long since burned and gone?  Say hello to the tax man.

Just about enough to make a guy want to turtle up and hide for the rest of the Democrat's in the Governor's office.

And speaking of turtles... (that was a hot segwey, right?)  Easily the BIIIIIIGGEST news of the morning... the Ivory Tower reports that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will park their Party Bus outside Comerica Park tonight as a part of their 25th Anniversary Celebration.

The first Detroit stop is tonight until 7 p.m. as part of pregame activities before the Detroit Tigers face off against the Minnesota Twins. The Ninja Turtles are set to be at Comerica Park in the main parking lot for photo opportunities, dancing and mixed martial arts demonstrations.

Which only proves the point in my own mind, with all of the other nonsense going on across the state these days, and today especially, that there is literally NOTHING that isn't quickly improved with a little Turtle Power!

How Republicans Can Keep 100 Cops on Streets Now!

Michigan Senate passes a bill mandating that no police officers be laid off to balance the budget, and that the 10,000 non-essential state employees be given additional unpaid leave throughout the next year to make up the time.

that's an additional 2.5 days each for the 10,000 non-essential state employees to keep 100 cops on the job.

Then, introduce the measure in the Democratically controlled Senate.

Then motion to discharge it from all committees and demand an immediate vote on the floor of the Michigan House, citing the Michigan Constitution Article IV Section 16 and Michigan House Rule 42 and 58:

"Each house, except as otherwise provided in this constitution, shall choose its own officers and determine the rules of its proceedings, but shall not adopt any rule that will prevent a majority of the members elected thereto and serving therein from discharging a committee from the further consideration of any measure ..."

Some democrats will vote for the measure.  I believe that it will pass.

Then demand that Governor Granholm respect the wishes of the legislature and of the people of the state of Michigan and keep those 100 cops on the streets.

We're still funding the office of the first man?

If we cut that from the budget, how many troopers will that keep on the road?

one single school board seat.  That's it.  But, there is a conservative sounding candidate running against a less conservative sounding candidate, so I'll be there.

Gotta love tiny elections and their dismal turnout.  My wife and I will probably account for a percentage point or three.
