    . . . but the delineation is there for a reason.  Granted, there is a good deal of overlap, but also enough distinction that the five categories is what was settled on.

    Tea partiers, for example, are often a hybrid of conservative and libertarian; not really one or the other, but containing enough of each that they can be easily confused with either of them (depending on perspective).  Definitely a separate category.

    Likewise, I suspect that no one in their right mind would consider either Jerry Ford or John Engler to be Rockefeller liberals, yet neither would they be considered rightly in any of the other three.  Moderate is a separate category for a reason.
