    Quite frankly . . . (none / 0) (#12)

. . . and this seems as good a place to discuss it as any, the RINO term gets flung around wayyy too much anymore to be as useful as it ought to be.  Also, the terms "establishment" and "grassroots" are fairly nebulous, IMO, and not really adequate to the discussions we ought to be having on pachyderm credibility.

The way I see it, the Republican brand can be broken down into five "flavors" (if you will).  Arranged alphabetically, they are: "Conservative Republican," "Liberal Republican," "Libertarian Republican," "Moderate Republican," and "Tea Party Republican."

I'd easily burn through more pages and words than the combined length of America's Charters of Freedom defining those five categories, and I'll wager that I'd still blow it on at least one point of careful delineation.  I've learned that it's much easier to define the categories through easily-identifiable example pairs.  Thus, the categories break down as follows:

    • Conservative Republican (Reagan & Agema)
    • Liberal Republican (Romney & Milliken)
    • Libertarian Republican (Paul & Amash)
    • Moderate Republican (Ford & Engler)
    • Tea Party Republican (Palin & Colbeck)

It's this simple: whichever example pair most closely identifies you; that's the type of republican that you are.  I find it much more descriptive than the other "terminology" we've been flinging around like monkey poo of late.
