    Discover the controls on the party electoral process that exist now that did not exist then. Also, look at recent history. Our side is fractionalized more than theirs; adding yet another party will only fractionalize it further. See the doctrine of divide and conquer from The Art of War. Third parties siphon votes these days. It's also a complicated issue.
