How Did We Ever Survive Without THIS?

New bloat in state government a waste of time and effort.

From the still shaking-my-head dept.

Melanin content might soon have its own do-nothing department.  ‘Racial justice’ warriors found their champions in our legislature, as the Michigan Senate found thirty-four willing huzzahs beating out the two belligerent harrumphs on 2015 senate bill 90.

Passed 34 to 2 in the Senate on January 14, 2016, to create an “Office of African-American Affairs” in the state Department of Civil Rights, and a government African-American Affairs Commission consisting of 15 political appointees who have “a particular interest or expertise in African-American concerns,” with the mission of developing “a unified policy and plan of action to serve the needs of African-Americans in this state”

Ok.. but what about section 26 part 2 of the Michigan Constitution?

§26 (2) The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.

And given that, it begs the question:

“What’s the point?”  What might this commission accomplish outside of the areas that government has business operating in?

Unless it is ALL ABOUT getting federal aid.

(Shaking my head) how about Article I, sec. 1 "All political power is inherent in the people. Government is instituted for their equal benefit, security and protection"
    Or
Article I, sec. 2 "No person shall be denied the equal protection of the laws; nor shall any person be denied the enjoyment of his civil or political rights or be discriminated against in the exercise thereof because of religion, race, color or national origin. The legislature shall implement this section by appropriate legislation."

It is almost comical how social justice warriors beg for more regulation from the very entity that supposedly has violated their rights in the first place.

My $0.02 on this is given Gov. Snyder's performance earlier this week during the SOTS speech (aside from the first 10-minutes or so of "standing to be acknowledged" fluff & filler), when he did get into substantive material, his body language just screamed that he was lying his, um, rear off. And despite his "timeline of events as they happened" in Flint, he was still holding back something.

Based upon what 10x25MM has written so far (excellent work, BTW!), I've got this nagging suspicion that the fallout from this may be far worse than we even suspect (a permanent address at Leavenworth for Rick Snyder and several department heads who "misread/misunderstood" regulations perhaps?).

Jason didn't mention it, but SB-90 was introduced by republican Senator Rick Jones.

I'm of the very strong opinion that the republican kakistocracy is in full-on, damage control-spin mode right now, trying to make nice with the community agitators and race hustlers as a face saving gesture. They dredged up this old bill (it was originally introduced last February) as, I believe, the first of many peace offerings.

They should have just thrown up their hands and raised a white flag for all of the good that will do.
