The Pig You Are Stuck With

Good luck on getting rid of THAT one.

1444000527v0f4pSome people think that a recall is the wrong way to remove bad actors from our elected positions.

So much so, that the Michigan legislature fundamentally changed the recall process from a difficult process into a bad running gag. The rules change to the recall process enacted in 2012 Became a more limited operation with shorter windows, an unconstitutional ‘factual’ requirement, and then an automatic insertion of the candidate back on the ballot as the default party candidate.

IMHO, those who voted for the recall provision changes are political reprobates.  The changes made the extremely difficult into the insurmountable, removing a tool in the tool box of the electorate. (Just the way non responsive big government types want)

Example?  Current efforts in Michigan to recall Rick Snyder now a total of four signature gathering operations, and other recall efforts (state senators) total about six more. With the window of 60 days (it was 90) to collect 790,000 signatures for any one of the Snyder recall efforts, it is likely an impossible task.  Add to that number, about 20% (150,000 signatures) more as a buffer.

Good luck with that.

25% PLUS another 5% for good measure? In a 60 day window, the governor, senators or other elected folks might be more easily removed with a good old fashioned across-the-kitchen-table ‘stare down.’

Efforts might never cease, but success will remain only a fantasy.  Recalls in Michigan will never ever happen again.  The legislature at the end of the 2012 session effectively removed a tool from the tool box of voters.  A 10 lb sledge was taken out, with a toy mallet replacing it.

Time is the only cure now.  Some of us have more, some less, but the waiting game is all we have as lying while campaigning has never been made illegal, and incumbency is well protected by Lansing’s money interests. So absent an achievable recall, or a followup election miracle, voters are generally stuck with the lipsticked pig they elect for the maximum number of terms.

And some folks want to repeal those limits?

The way I see it, you could be no better than the "cucks" then. I have yet to see you with a clipboard in hand, or somehow becoming active in such affairs.

Of course you see it that way, you're a cuck. You also haven't a clue as to what I do or, do not do. You put yourself outside the circle. Like so many others in your mold, the rest of us move on- http://www.dangerandplay.com/2016/01/07/why-i-dont-play-defense-or-explain-myself/

          What an excellent link!

Seriously, is this your Jekyll and Hyde moment? Have you found something to share with the rest of the class that you think is relevant to you?

I encourage you to visit that often and learn about yourself more.

As for the "circle" ..OMG no!

Thank you Jason for bringing this to the table. I'd like to add that it's not a recall at all. A recall is just that--you circulate recall petitions that simply state: Should Joe or Josey be recalled, yes or no. Collect enough signatures and the only question is, Should they be recalled. If Yeses win--end of story. Then a special election is held and the winner is elected.

But there's much more sinister laws at play which predate the 2012 changes. It's those laws which violate state and federal constitutions and if you review all the laws collectively--they have riders on these laws which state simply--its the legislatures' intent that these laws do not violate the constitution. I believe that the only intent is within the riders to these laws in that they know they violate the constitutions and figure no one will be able to challenge them on it.

It is my opinion that we have a massive violation of public trust criminal in nature, not to mention malfeasance/misfeasance in office. We have a whole state of disenfranchised voters as it relates to the NO, NO, NO on the gas tax. Same language but a higher tax than what was on the ballot. I'd also like to point out that the Flint and Detroit problems were already looming throughout 2015, and this was the quickest way to dupe the voters to raise much needed money. Where's a part-time legislature when you need it.

How do you teach kids that a representative government is based upon two assumptions:

That corruption can first be (aggregately) assessed, then eliminated and continually fought on a part-time basis...AND...

That they will flat out 'never' find a candidate worth KEEPING who will represent their interests for the time that God has (obviously) placed them here on this earth to do so.

It's as if the older generation is (now) insisting to the younger that:

"Well..yeah...we DID screw your future up royally due to pure self interest, not paying attention whatsoever and/or simply not giving a rip...but YOU poor bastards certainly aren't 'qualified' to pick YOUR candidates for life (which WE certainly couldn't handle)..nor FIGHT inevitable corruption or FIX the mess that WE caused..full time!!

These kids are fighting millionaires and BILLIONAIRES capable of lining up just as many establishment candidates as they wish, time after time, in every single village, township, county or district in this state.

For heaven's sakes..can you guys give these kids a break?

Or are you going to run their political lives from 'the grave' as well with your "it just can't be done because we SUCKED at it" arrogant attitudes?

^^^^^...the above is EXACTLY why young people never gravitated to the Tea Party message when it was imperative that they gave the grassroots the shot in the arm that they so desperately needed. Even older folks like myself were shouted down when any blasphemous talk of "shared sacrifice" for their generation was so much as murmured.
Their first clue that 'old people' couldn't be trusted was when Tea Party leadership all across this country knew full well what the IRS was after..their membership. Instead of immediately going to the members themselves supporting them and being the Paul Revere(s) that they fancied themselves as..they turned to the GOP establishment instead..who basically told them to keep their mouths SHUT until THEY felt that the political timing would benefit THEM the most.

How do you trust someone who believes that your generation can't even pick a candidate for life...let alone FIX (for life) FULL TIME what YOU have literally destroyed (very likely) beyond repair?

Do we really despise our children or their claim to this country's sustainable legacy treasures that much...or are we all simply selfish greedy bastards hoping that we somehow 'check out' before they all figure out what just happened..and (finally) pick up the torches and pitchforks?

Why are we complaining about the recall process "4 years later"...when we aren't even using the bad legislation ALREADY voted on in the past year or so to illustrate/sway the most important election in any Michigan children's lifetime? Has there been any pre-election period in Michigan history where so much easily demonstrable (proposed/recorded) bad legislation is just sitting there in the wings WAITING for the lame duck or before? How about a period in this state's history (preceding an election) where a minor party has had this much sway in crafting bad legislation..period?
I continually bring up the "pension obligation bonds with no vote of the people required" law passed unanimously with 'conservative' silence as this effort paralleled the recall law (silently) during the exact same election cycle that we are in now. The recall law was so bad that they had to jam it through in the lame duck. Yet the pension bond giveaway (introduced by one of the TP's highest profile flag bearers; Colbeck) was no different than our proposed crippling legislation currently waiting in the wings and introduced (unbelievably) but a month before election day in 2012.
An electorate will never rid themselves of bad legislators if:
    1) they never demand that legislators appear in public..and..
    2) they never use their votes against them (anyways).

If you want young people to join a cause then you den well better educate them.
If you want them to attend expensive VIP-featured parties and hobnob with the brightest minds of their local grassroots movement..then you darn well better have a public website that they can go to 'afterwards' which at the very least outlines a strategy for them to employ locally/share with others.
If these kids have no idea what is coming down the pipe which impacts them and/or WHY indeed it will?..you will have no chance whatsoever of rallying them in a lame duck after armegeddon has already struck and even worse battles are being fought in real time on the Capital lawn.

    Oh yeah, I forgot.
The left made certain (again, in 2012) that patriots would never again pitch a tent on that sacred battlefield of public discourse..which is what we have taught our children since.
