Social Media

The little guys could very well become little again.

We use Facebook, Twitter, Google, and some other platforms, but a recent experience with our internet oriented family business has left me a little concerned.

For 20 years, we have operated a web based security camera equipment business.  For 20 years I have fought for keyword optimization, good search results, and developed a reputation befitting the nearly first store of its kind on the internet.

It has always been tough, and others now do the search optimization a little better.  But over that same time I have developed good relationships, and the customer base remains sufficiently strong.

Strong enough in fact to have missed the impact of some serious subversion that was going on for nearly two weeks.

Late in August, I was reviewing visit statistics for CU1.COM, and noticed a sudden drop of about 300 daily visitors starting on August 12. Followup revealed that the website had been completely scrubbed from the Google search engine.  Even using the EXACT domain address as a search term, Google returned only an alternate possibility with it’s “Do you mean ..?” suggestion.

I was able to reach a support person at Google, and explained my concern, and the site appeared later that day as-if it had never had been missing.

Consider that the internet has provided those new ways in which we can communicate.  First we had chat rooms, then the blogs.  At the point of that last, a new investigative phenomenon had been born.  Citizen reporters and pundits.  Big Media had it’s grip broken, and no longer was there a leash on the truth.  When Twitter, facebook, and other social media  venues began and the phenomenon of facebook page likes became a rage, it appeared there was even more opportunity to get ‘the message’ out.

Partly True, until it no longer is.   Really.

Folks, if you value our new found voice ‘power’ in communications, consider the possibility that our web store story could happen to you, your favorite site, or other allies during the push back to the left.  While the institutional policies of Big-Social (BigSoc) may not explicitly condone censorship, there are enough ways in which the functionaries of those organizations can have an adverse effect on your outreach efforts.

If you do not already have your favorite conservative sites bookmarked, do it now.  If you post and comment on FB about Michigan issues and don’t share elsewhere (or here), you run the risk of being muted at a moment’s notice.

On our RightMi.com Facebook page I posted this:

Attention – As you all might know, at any time, FB, Google, Twitter, etc., have the ability to turn us off, break our communications, and skew the conversation while we fight to restore our republic. If you feel that your views are well protected under their editorial viewpoints then disregard this.

Sadly, all of about 20 of the 560+ members in this group/page actually have accounts at RightMi.com. For you, is this just one of 800 FB groups where you get a smattering of spammed and over posted memes?

RightMI.com exists to have Michigan’s conservative conversation outside of this must-log-in controlled-by-a-liberal environment. Please consider actually supporting the actual RightMi.com by visiting and commenting there as well as posting if you have an account there.

Like this page, it is primarily for articles/postings of MICHIGAN interest, or with a MICHIGAN angle. Occasionally there are compelling reasons to have a national news posting, but every other blog in the world has those.

There is great Michigan political, information posted here from time to time that ought to have a greater presence for the real world outside of FB. If take the time to post here, you are barely realizing the impact it could have if done from the site itself. This should be the place for advertising the postings you make at RightMi.com.

If you would like to be added to the RightMi.com roster, message me with your email address, and I will add you.

Join the investigative efforts and conversation where the news and views actually originate.

I hope to have more of you participate.

Recreate your old blogs.  Suggest other blogs for the blogroll here. report on the abuses by big government types in your neck of the woods.

Don’t put all your eggs in the BigSoc media basket.

If I had the time, I'd be very inclined to investigate the creation of a Conservative social media alternative to Twitter & FB, something akin to AMAC over AARP.

Even without that alternative at this time, because more people becoming aware of the fact that these outlets (Twitter & FB) are censoring what is written, I see those two going the way of IM and Myspace in the not too distant future.

There are other choices out there.

Check GAB.ai and LBRY. Not exactly what you suggest, but at least they promise no censorship.

Congrats Jason on 20 years of service. Maybe that's the reason--you've been successful for 20 years and that's not suppose to happen apparently. Success is not an option otherwise, how's the government suppose to take care of you if you don't need IT. How is IT suppose to bail you out if you won't let IT. Obviously, you're not with the program. Good Job!
