Left Coast Incompetence Will Slow Your Computer Tuesday

Another major triumph of Silicon Valley engineering incompetence.

Microsoft is going to slow down most all Intel 64 bit CPU computers on Tuesday, January 9th, in their regular monthly Windows updates.  This after the corrupt finks at Apple got caught slowing down IPhones just before each new model was released.

Microsoft have to compensate for a fundamental design flaw in Intel’s processor chips which has gone unnoticed for 10 years. Expect a 5% – 30% slow down, depending on your tasks and your specific processor.

Kernel memory leaking’ Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign
Other OSes will need an update, performance hits loom

A fundamental design flaw in Intel’s processor chips has forced a significant redesign of the Linux and Windows kernels to defang the chip-level security bug.

Programmers are scrambling to overhaul the open-source Linux kernel’s virtual memory system. Meanwhile, Microsoft is expected to publicly introduce the necessary changes to its Windows operating system in an upcoming Patch Tuesday….

…..Crucially, these updates to both Linux and Windows will incur a performance hit on Intel products. The effects are still being benchmarked, however we’re looking at a ballpark figure of five to 30 per cent slow down, depending on the task and the processor model. More recent Intel chips have features – such as PCID – to reduce the performance hit. Your mileage may vary.

Similar operating systems, such as Apple’s 64-bit macOS, will also need to be updated – the flaw is in the Intel x86-64 hardware, and it appears a microcode update can’t address it. It has to be fixed in software at the OS level, or go buy a new processor without the design blunder.

Details of the vulnerability within Intel’s silicon are under wraps: an embargo on the specifics is due to lift early this month, perhaps in time for Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday next week. Indeed, patches for the Linux kernel are available for all to see but comments in the source code have been redacted to obfuscate the issue……

Elite ‘engineers’ in California are idiots. Overpaid idiots.  Underworked idiots.

Imagine the abuse Detroit would receive if they had to slow down all automobiles sold over the last 10 years by 30%!

But the media on this disaster? Crickets! You have to get the story from the British media. The privilege you get for all those donations to Hillary?

It’s not a swamp, it’s an ocean which needs to be drained.

Slow down my BUTT!!! It completely crashed my puter, "advised" me that I have "temporary" access wanting me to "recreate" the user identity. Like whoever does that???? System restore--where are you????????

This happened to my aunt's computer. The Microsoft update changed how permissions are examined in Windows and found some kind of error in your computer's permissions. Microsoft uses permissions to keep outsiders from hijacking your computer, but also uses permissions to accumulate data from their customers. I strongly suspect that these permission problems are being created by Microsoft's data mining.

Fixed her computer by starting it in 'Safe Mode', then running a repair utility called Tweaking.com Windows Repair 4.0.12. Time consuming, but the alternative is to wipe the computer and load a fresh copy of Windows. A wipe/reload is expensive and destroys your files and pictures.

Thank you 10x25MM. I write this from the affected puter.
