So what does a government do when it lacks popular support for raising taxes?
It provides more basis for support by allowing all the bad things those taxes would supposedly end, to happen. From the Detroit News:
Deteriorating road conditions have “gotten a lot more attention in Lansing” than other issues in recent weeks as this year’s harsh winter winds down and pavement cracks and holes begin forming, said Kirk Steudle, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation.
“I think, finally, they’re realizing what we told them is going to happen is actually going to happen,” Steudle said Wednesday at a conference of county road commission leaders.
The great big “I told you so” is coming out in an effort to raise taxes and license fees, rather than keep existing road generated monies in the roads. You were warned, and the holes in the roads will serve their intended purpose of proving you need to pay more.
Dingell also stressed to reporters that she has different views than her husband.
“I’ve learned a lot from John Dingell. Like any married couple, we don’t’ agree on everything and as we go down the road there may be some differences,” she said. “I’m not going to try to be John Dingell. I’m going to be Debbie Dingell.”
One difference between the couple is their position on gun control; John Dingell is a lifelong supporter of the right to bear arms, while Debbie Dingell has spoken out against it.
“That is an issue that we do not agree on,” she said. “We come from very different perspectives.”
But, I repeat myself. So, in essence, ‘ol Queen Debbie will be yet another “Me Next” Progressive in the long list of Constitution loathing Progressives in D.C. Well, I reckon all that’s left now is for Denise Ilitch and Geoffrey Fieger to throw Queen Debbie a “pizza party” too.
Taxpayers Lose Again, Fisker Automotive Sold to China’s Wanxiang Wanxiang bought Fisker’s battery supplier, A123 Systems LLC, last year through a similar bankruptcy sale. A123 and Fisker were both recipients of a controversial U.S. Department of Energy loan program meant to support clean energy technology. Michigan taxpayers also suffered dearly when the quasi UN-elected MEDC give away tax dollars to A123 Systems in taxpayer funded subsidies. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/18/us-fisker-wanxiang-sale-idUSBREA1H1LM20140218
Michigan farm family has had to endure an out of control bureaucratic nightmare
Mark Baker being interviewed a couple of days ago by the Alex Jones folks.
There is a great point made towards the end of the Mark Baker interview here. The Baker family has had to endure an incredible pressure brought on by an out of control Lansing bureaucracy. While other farmers have folded, allowing the state to destroy their property, the Bakers have remained firmly resolved that they are protected by the US Constitution.
They are correct. (Interview/segment starts at about 14:40)
We applaud and pray for the Bakers as they courageously face an ever increasing Statist government.
After Event Report - MUCC Hosted Event In Acme, Michigan February 17, 2014
Last night’s Agenda 21 party (oops, I mean Land Trust Town Hall) showed Rep. Wayne Schmidt as the pro-government, anti private property progressive he is. Sitting on a panel hosted by MUCC, surrounded by reps from the Land Conservancy, MEDC, and League of ‘Conservation’ (NOT conservative) Voters; he pressed this audience for support of his bill (HB 5210) to remove the cap on State owned land in the Northern Lower and UP.
Apparently, 5 million acres of State owned land is NOT enough.
If Schmidt has his way, Northern Michigan communities will see new challenges
One of the little deals with the DNR and its ability to purchase land, is that it is limited.
Limited to 4,650,000 acres in fact, with some exceptions, and not more than 3,910,000 acres north of a line between Mason and Arenac counties, to be exact.
This means that the amount of land that is available for private use and development will not continue to shrink indefinitely. It means that the revenues from oil and gas lease rights are not forever used to remove land from local tax rolls. It also means that overzealous misplaced urban planner graduates from the MSU school of property theft have one less tool in their belt of American dream destruction.
in 2012 Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, signed a common sense piece of legislation (huh.. how bout that) that put a check on the runaway property acquisition of the DNR, and the way in which it distorts property values and makes desirable land unavailable for private use. The ONLY 5 Republicans Voting against the bill at that time were Jon Bumstead, (R) Holly Hughes, (R) Peter Pettalia, (R) Bruce Rendon, (R) and Wayne Schmidt, (R). They and their Democrat property rights thieving counterparts were sent packing, as the bad ol Republican bullies put that limit on the quite literal GROWTH of government through land purchases.
Surprise, surprise, now they are back. And they brought friends. And they seem to think Michigan has too much private property available to it.
If you didn’t get a chance to be there in person, the AFP organized rally greeted Obama last Friday with a line up of signs. The event in East Lansing drew about 50 according to this news report. Obama was on hand to hold a service for the church of agricultural welfare.
